Strollers For Toddlers

Why does your toddler keep hitting other kids? Well it is the attention and reaction they get. They don't understand that the person being hit, is maybe hurt. All they see is that by hitting they are getting a reaction from the other child and the parents, teachers around him. One of the best ways to tackle this problem is to stop giving your child any attention when they hit another kid. Instead of screaming at your child, explain to them that they have done wrong and give more attention to the child being hurt. Toddlers and children in general thrive from adult attention. When they see their actions are not being rewarded with the attention they crave, the hitting will stop.

Time Outs

Timeouts are great for children who hit others. They will know they are being punished for their actions by sitting or standing in a place that is boring. Explain to your toddler that hitting other children is not acceptable. Again do not overreact to their actions, just give them a time out and explain what they have done wrong.

Acknowledge Positive Behavior

When was the last time you praised your child for being good, for being friendly, being helpful or being obedient. As mentioned before your child thrives on adult reaction so when they do something good, give them lots of praise. Your toddler is learning new things on a daily basis, it is up to us parents to help them differentiate between the good and bad.

Learning how to stop your toddler hitting other children is no less different than any other negative behavior. As parents we need to take action that is appropriate to their negative behavior. Any child that knows they have done wrong and what punishments they may face, will definitely stop the negative behavior.
